57km of coastline. From The Spit to Palm Beach. Here is the honest guide to every beach worth knowing and why Burleigh is the best base for all of it.
The Gold Coast has more good beaches than most people realise. Each one has its own character, with different surf, different vibe, and different crowd. We are based in Miami, right in the middle of it, and this is what we tell guests when they ask where to swim, surf, and stay.

The Gold Coast Coastline
The Gold Coast runs from The Spit at Main Beach in the north to Palm Beach and Currumbin in the south, with a long stretch of mostly unbroken sand. Some beaches are best for families, some are better for surf, and some are worth visiting just for the walk and the view.
Staying in Miami or Burleigh puts you in the middle of it. From Burleigh Gold Coast Motel, Miami Beach is a 5-minute walk and Burleigh Beach is about 10 minutes away, with the Route 700 bus running up and down the Coast nearby.
Northern Beaches: The Spit to Surfers Paradise
The Spit at Main Beach
The Spit is the far northern tip of the Coast. It is more about calm water, walking tracks, fishing, and scenery than surf. It is a good spot if you want something quieter and more open than Surfers Paradise.
Main Beach
Main Beach feels more polished and family-friendly. The beach is wide and clean, with Tedder Avenue and Marina Mirage close by. It is a good option for a swim and an easy beach morning, less so if you are chasing proper surf.
Surfers Paradise Beach
Surfers Paradise is the most famous beach on the Gold Coast and usually the busiest. The beach itself is still good, with wide sand, reliable waves, and the skyline behind it. Go early if you want to see it at its best.
Central Beaches: Broadbeach to Miami
Broadbeach
Broadbeach is a better fit than Surfers for a lot of visitors. The beach is strong, the food scene is better, and the whole area feels less chaotic. It is a good all-round option if you want beach time plus shops and restaurants.
Miami Beach
Miami Beach is our local beach and the nearest one to the motel. It is quieter than Burleigh, good for a quick swim, and excellent for sunrise or sunset walks. If you want the easiest beach from our front door, this is it.

Burleigh Beach: One of the Best Gold Coast Beaches
The Surf
Burleigh is one of the best-known surf beaches on the Gold Coast for a reason. The point off the headland can be excellent when the swell is running, while the stretch of beach beside it is better for a more casual swim or surf check.
The Headland
Burleigh Head National Park gives you one of the best views on the Coast. The walking track is easy, scenic, and worth doing even if you are not surfing. During whale season, it is also one of the better land-based viewing spots.
The Vibe
Burleigh works because the beach and the town match each other. Good coffee, solid food options, the headland, the markets, and easy access to Miami Marketta all make it a better base than staying further north.
Southern Beaches: Palm Beach to Currumbin
Palm Beach
Palm Beach has a similar feel to Burleigh but usually with a bit more space. There is good surf, good cafes, and easy access to Tallebudgera Creek if you want calm water for kids or paddleboarding.
Currumbin
Currumbin is more relaxed again. Currumbin Alley is one of the better beginner and intermediate waves on the Coast, and the area works well if you want a mix of surf, creek, and family attractions nearby.
Surf Breaks Worth Knowing
Snapper Rocks and The Superbank
Snapper Rocks is the headline break. It is famous for a reason and worth seeing even if you do not surf. When the swell is good, this stretch can produce some of the best waves in the country.

Kirra
Kirra is one of the great right-hand point breaks in Australia when it lines up. It is powerful, iconic, and part of what makes the southern Gold Coast so surf-focused. Even from the beach, it is worth the drive down.
Burleigh Point
Burleigh Point is the local classic. It is best viewed from the headland if you are not paddling out. On a proper swell, it is one of the most photogenic surf views on the Coast.
Why Burleigh Is the Best Base
You can stay further north and drive everywhere, or you can stay in Miami or Burleigh and be close to the best mix of beaches on the Coast. From our motel, you can walk to Miami Beach, get to Burleigh easily, and head north or south without much effort.
Miami Beach: 400m / 5-minute walk
Burleigh Beach: 820m / about 10 minutes
Palm Beach: short drive or bus ride south
Currumbin: about 15 minutes south
Snapper Rocks and Kirra: about 20 minutes south
Surfers Paradise: about 25 minutes north
