2026 Results — Gilmore and Ewing Claim Snapper Titles

Women — Stephanie Gilmore Claims Seventh Gold Coast Pro Title

Twenty-one years after skipping school to claim her first-ever CT win as a 17-year-old wildcard at Snapper Rocks, Stephanie Gilmore extended her own records with a 34th CT event win and seventh Gold Coast Pro title. Surfing Queensland covered it in full.

Her run through the event was flawless — defeating Erin Brooks, defending champion Bettylou Sakura Johnson, 2024 World Champion Caity Simmers, CT rookie Nadia Erostarbe in the Semifinals, and finally world No. 1 Luana Silva in the Final. The Queen of Snapper Rocks reclaimed her throne at 38 years old.

Runner-up Luana Silva moved to the top of the WSL rankings for the first time in her career — winning the GWM Aussie Treble alongside men's world No. 1 Gabriel Medina.

Men — Ethan Ewing Joins Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson

Ethan Ewing became the tenth Australian man to win the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro — joining Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, and a list of Gold Coast legends. His third CT victory came in a relentless Final against Connor O'Leary, posting an excellent 8.33 to seal the title. The 27-year-old from North Stradbroke Island had not competed at Snapper Rocks since posting a 9.10 on his first-ever CT wave here in 2017.

The Semifinals delivered the crowd moment of the event — a battle between Queenslanders Ewing and Gold Coast's own Liam O'Brien that had the beach roaring. See the official WSL highlights reel.

Snapper Rocks — Why It Matters

Snapper Rocks is one of the most famous right-hand point breaks in the world. Part of the Superbank — a sand-bottom point that runs from Snapper through Greenmount and Kirra — it produces some of the longest, fastest, most perfectwaves in surfing. The 2026 event was the Superbank's first return to the CT since 2018. Four straight days of firing conditions reminded the world why this break belongs on the

Dream Tour.

Snapper Rocks is in Coolangatta — 15 minutes south of our motel via the Gold Coast Highway.

Kirra Beach — On the Way

Between Burleigh and Snapper sits Kirra Beach — another world-class right-hander that feeds into the Superbank when the swell is running. When conditions were pumping during the competition window, Kirra fired too. Worth a paddle if you have a board, or worth watching from the headland if you do not.

Surf Culture in Burleigh

Burleigh has its own break — the headland at the south end of Burleigh Beach produces a quality right-hander when the swell is running. Not Snapper, but worth a paddle. The North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club is the spot for breakfast with a view of the surf, or a cold beer after a session.
