We came across this brilliant video from the team at Delightful Events, a family-run business based in Wellington, New Zealand. They brought the kids to the Gold Coast for a school holiday adventure and filmed the whole thing - Movie World, Sea World, and Wet'n'Wild - narrated by their child who absolutely makes the whole thing worth watching.

The enthusiasm for every ride, every splash, and every animal encounter is the kind of thing that reminds you why the Gold Coast is one of the best family destinations in the Pacific. Give it a watch before you plan your trip.

Flying In from New Zealand or Overseas? Start Your Gold Coast Adventure Here

The Gold Coast is one of the most popular destinations for New Zealand families, and it is easy to see why. Direct flights from Wellington (WLG), Auckland, and Christchurch land at Gold Coast Airport (OOL) in under three hours. No long haul. No layovers. Just land and go. Jetstar flies direct from Wellington to OOL - the fastest and most affordable option. Qantas and Air New Zealand also service the route with connecting flights. Search and compare fares on Webjet to find the best deal for your travel dates.

From OOL, Burleigh Gold Coast Motel is a 15 to 20 minute drive north along the Gold Coast Highway. We are centrally located between the theme parks and the beach - which means you get the best of both without burning a full day travelling between them.

When you have just stepped off a flight with children, the last thing you want is a complicated check-in or a long transfer. Here is why Burleigh Gold Coast Motel works so well as a base for visiting families from New Zealand and overseas.

  • 15 to 20 minutes from OOL - one of the closest motels to the airport on the Gold Coast strip

  • Free parking on site - no daily parking fees eating into your holiday budget. Best to park early as carpark fills up, at peak times.

  • Ground floor rooms available - easy access with luggage, prams, and tired kids at the end of a park day

  • Pool on site - wind down after a big day without going anywhere

  • Manager Marina on site daily - local knowledge, restaurant tips, and genuine assistance when you need it

  • 36 rooms from $145 per night - significantly cheaper than resort pricing for the same location advantage

  • Book direct for the best rate - no booking platform fees, flexible cancellation, and personal service

  • 5 minutes walk to Burleigh Beach - a proper beach holiday alongside the theme park days

  • Central to everything - Burleigh Heads cafes and restaurants on your doorstep, theme parks 30 to 35 minutes north

We regularly host families from New Zealand, the UK, the US, Canada, and across Asia Pacific. Our manager Marina is on site daily and happy to help with local tips, transport options, and anything you need to make the trip run smoothly.

The Three Big Theme Parks - What to Expect

Warner Bros. Movie World

Warner Bros. Movie World is the Gold Coast's blockbuster theme park - and it shows. The whole park is built around the Warner Bros. studio universe, so from the moment you walk through the gates you are inside the world of DC superheroes, Harry Potter, Looney Tunes, and classic WB characters. Kids who grew up watching these films will not know where to look first.

The rides range from family-friendly to full-on thrill. Superman Escape launches you from 0 to 100km/h in two seconds. Batwing Spaceshot fires you 61 metres straight up before dropping you back down. Kansas Twister puts you inside a simulated tornado. The DC Rivals HyperCoaster is the tallest, fastest, and longest hypercoaster in the Southern Hemisphere - the one the older kids will be talking about on the flight home.

The Main Street parade is a highlight for younger children, and the child narrator in the video above captures that wide-eyed energy perfectly. The family flew into OOL specifically for this - and the footage shows it delivered.

Movie World is located at Oxenford, about 35 minutes north of the motel by car. Book tickets online before you go - it is almost always cheaper and you skip the front gate queue.

Sea World

Sea World is the one that surprises people most. It covers far more ground than most visitors expect - thrill rides, marine life encounters, kids zones, and a working research laboratory, all in one park.

For younger children, Nickelodeon Land is a full precinct of its own with rides themed around SpongeBob SquarePants, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the broader Nick universe. SpongeBob's Boating School Blast, Donatello's Ninja Flyers, and Bikini Bottom Crosstown Express keep the little ones entertained for hours without queuing for the big rides.

For older kids and adults, Jet Rescue Coaster is a standout - a high-speed launch coaster themed around a marine rescue. Trident is the park's newest major ride. Seal Harbour, Polar Bear Shores, Ray Reef, and Penguin Point give you genuine up-close wildlife encounters that no other Gold Coast park offers.

The current feature exhibit is Sea Jellies Illuminated - an immersive display of sea jellies against a lit backdrop, paired with a first-of-its-kind operating research laboratory run by Griffith University. It is the kind of thing that turns a fun day out into something the kids actually remember and talk about.

One attraction the child narrator in the video makes sure to call out is Sea World Cruises. Dolphin feeding, whale watching in season, and getting out on the water adds a completely different dimension to the day. Worth booking in advance during school holidays as it fills up fast.

Sea World is on The Spit at Main Beach, about 30 minutes north of the motel.

Wet'n'Wild is the one built specifically for a Gold Coast summer day. The ride line up covers every age group - from gentle to genuinely terrifying.

The Giant Wave Pool is the natural meeting point for families. H2Oasis is the dedicated kids zone with smaller slides and splash areas that keep younger children occupied while the bigger kids disappear to the major attractions. The Super 8 Aqua Racer puts eight people on mats racing side by side down parallel slides. River Rapids is a tube ride through white water that gets everyone wet whether they want to be or not. The

Tornado swings you up the walls of a massive funnel in a four-person raft - the drop at the end gets the loudest reactions in the park.

It gets busy during school holidays so arrive early, claim your spot at the wave pool, and hit the big rides before the queues build. Wet'n'Wild is adjacent to Movie World at Oxenford, so families often combine both parks across two days.

Theme Park Tips for School Holidays

Stay Central. Save on Transport.

Burleigh Gold Coast Motel sits at 1908-1910 Gold Coast Highway, Miami - midway between Gold Coast Airport (OOL) and the theme parks at Oxenford. That central position is not an accident - it is the reason families from New Zealand and overseas keep coming back. You land, you drop your bags, and you are ready to go. No hour-long transfers. No taxi queues. No wasted holiday time on the road.

The Location Advantage in Numbers

  • 15 to 20 minutes from OOL - one of the shortest airport-to-room transfers on the Gold Coast strip

  • 30 to 35 minutes to Movie World, Sea World, and Wet'n'Wild at Oxenford and Main Beach

  • 5 minutes walk to Burleigh Beach - Australia's most loved stretch of sand

  • 5 minutes walk to James Street - the best cafe and restaurant strip between Brisbane and Byron

  • 10 minutes to Mermaid Beach dining and nightlife

  • 10 minutes to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

What Is Included in Every Stay

  • Free parking on site - no daily fees, no permits, no stress with a hire car or work vehicle

  • Outdoor pool - somewhere for the kids to burn off energy without leaving the property

  • Air conditioning in every room - essential on the Gold Coast in summer

  • Free Wi-Fi throughout - stay connected without roaming charges

  • Ground floor rooms available - practical for families with prams, luggage, or mobility needs

  • Microwave, bar fridge, kettle, tea and coffee in every room - cut down on meal costs with simple in-room prep

  • Manager Marina on site daily - not a phone line, not a booking app, a real person who knows the area

Book Direct and Save

Rooms start from $145 per night. When you book direct at burleighmotel.com.au you pay no booking platform fees - the kind that add $20 to $40 per night on third party sites without adding anything to your stay. You also get flexible cancellation and direct contact with the property if your plans change.

For families travelling from New Zealand on a set holiday budget, that difference adds up fast across a week's stay. The money stays in your holiday, not with a booking platform.
