If you are planning a Gold Coast trip and wondering where to base yourself, Burleigh Heads is the answer. Here is why smart travellers choose Burleigh over the high-rise strip up north.


Surfers Paradise has the name, but Burleigh has the beach. Golden sand, consistent waves, and the iconic headland backdrop make Burleigh Beach one of Australia's best. It is patrolled, family-friendly, and never as packed as the beaches further north.

The Burleigh Headland walking track starts right at the beach. Ocean views, rainforest, koalas in the trees - all free, all within walking distance.

  • Route 777 - Direct to Gold Coast Airport, 25 minutes

  • Route 700 - Up and down the entire Coast, Surfers in 25 minutes

  • Route 765 - To Robina train station for Brisbane

All fares are 50 cents with a Go Card. Try getting around Surfers that cheaply.

And by late 2026, the Gold Coast Light Rail extension to Burleigh will be complete. Tram it anywhere on the Coast.


Every Sunday, the Burleigh Markets take over the beachfront. Local produce, handmade goods, live music, ocean views. It is one of the best markets in Queensland and it is right on your doorstep.

Miami Marketta runs Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Street food from around the world, live bands, and a vibe you will not find in any Surfers Paradise nightclub.

The Village Markets are on the first and third Sunday of each month - fashion, art, and design.


World-Class Surfing Events

Burleigh is a world-famous surf break. The point break at the headland draws surfers from around the globe.

In February 2026, the Gold Coast Open (18-22 February) brings WSL QS1000 action to Burleigh Heads. Stay with us and walk to the comp - we are 100 metres from the beach.
